I was looking for a not so overpriced automatic winding luxury watch and I was so happy that my research and patience has led me to a true beauty - the ORIS AQUIS DATE. The hustle-free buying experience was provided by Jomashop on July 2012.

To start, truly luxurious in every way is how Oris packaged this watch. Although the content is what truly matters, clearly, Oris didn't save on this part. It is boxed quite heavily on a mini diving helmet. It's awesome because it somehow reminded me that I really did buy something valuable and genuine.

Upon seeing the watch, WHOA! It is screaming with simplicity and elegance. To elaborate, my decision to get this was largely because of its ceramic bezel. This feature can most often be seen in Rolex and Omega (premium watch at a premium price) line-up of diving watches simply because of its resistance to bumps and scratches... But Oh Boy!, Oris didn't disappoint me. The ceramic bezel was a beauty. Although not polished or glossy, it is simply gorgeous and exactly the way I wanted. The outer markings are perfectly aligned to the dial's inner markings (great details). On the negative side, its weight was kind of on the heavy side but tolerable. For few weeks, I can't help but wonder how heavy this watch is. Coming from a TAG, the ORIS weighs a lot more but once I was fully adjusted with its weight on my left wrist, it looks and feel awesome.

In summary, with so many features to fall in love with like the perfect blend/mix of polished and brushed stainless steel, the crisp dial, the beautiful ceramic bezel, the crown guard, the see-through mechanism back case, the slightly domed sapphire glass (pretty much standard on luxury watches), the very good details on the bezel markings, the amazing curves and lastly, the blue glowing luminous color in the dark that last. For me, this is indeed a prime example of outstanding craftsmanship, and at 43mm, I am so elated that it seats PERFECTLY on my 7 inch wrist for my daily ol-round use. It is truly so simple yet classy and luxurious.

The only difficult part rose when I was trying to adjust the metal bracelet. I ordered two sets of precision screwdrivers from Amazon because the first set didn't have the exact size that will perfectly take the screw out of this bracelet. But beyond that, adjusting the bracelet to fit my wrist was a breeze.

If only Oris, categorized as a luxury watch maker, kept this simple (so many trims on their website) in making it a standard package to have interchangeable bracelets by putting the rubber strap, metal bracelet and the precise screwdriver to adjust the bracelets, this will clearly be an excellent luxury watch at this price range.

On the design end, since most features are engraved at the back, it will be awesome if Oris omitted the "PRESSURE RESISTANT" and "30BAR/300M" in the front. If they did, they have ample space to make the date wider and taller. Additionally, they can also make more emphasis on the date window by putting a white background around it (ala Oris Divers Titan 'C'). Furthermore, they can make the "ORIS, AUTOMATIC" a bit wider (like the Oris Artix GT Day Date). Ultimately, this will result to a very clean and crisp dial.

Lastly, the only thing that is left untested on this watch is the power reserve. Oris website claims that it has 38 hours of power reserve but since I rarely take it off, that thing is left unproven. With ease of time readability, overall, this is a very good buy and I was hoping to give me many years of usage/durability. I am very impressed with this watch and my admirations are very high for its quality, built, design and most of all, its simplicity.

Great watch, perfect finish. Very solid construction, it's a heavy watch.
Suitable for both casual or a more formal occasion.
