Innovative Piece!

This TAG Heuer CAV5115 FT6019 Automatic Chronograph

TAG Heuer CAV5115 FT6019 Automatic Chronograph

I just got this outstanding watch as a wedding gift and it is an absolute gorgeous piece (yes I am a lucky and very happy man!!). It came in a beautiful wooden box and when I opened it, it felt like opening a treasure chest. My heart stop beating when my eyes landed on it. There is no word to describe how stunning the watch is. My first impression was the sapphire glass with double anti-reflective glare which stunned me. It made the black dial even more appealing. If you like high end watches, with a sporty look but in the same time want to show off when dressed up (yes I am the type of guy who think you can wear rubber band watch with a suit especially this one!) this is the watch to own. The rubber band feels amazingly comfortable as well as practical with the Push button bracelet strap. I was torn between this one and the CAV5185.FT6020 but ultimately all black wasn't for me. I like the watch to stand out a little and what more can you do with metal shiny case and bezel, black dial with a black rubber band. I am so very happy to own this masterpiece especially when I see this "affordable" price compare to an "Hublot" which in my opinion looks too bulky to make it a "fine" watch to wear although a lot of people will disagree. One of the reasosn why I went for the rubber band is that I will avoid all scratches on the metal bracelet (I own a link and you will get it scratch no matter how well you try to maintain it) and also I feel like leather gets dirty quick and needs a "for sure" replacement after 2 years. With the rubber band, you avoid the scratches, it is the 2nd longest in terms of durability after the metallic's and I just think with rubber you can wear it almost anytime (casualy, dressing up).

A must own if you love Tag Heuer and especially if you like me are amazed by the quality/price as well as the technology innovation (caliper balance and first watch ever capable of measuring 1/100th of a second). Well done Tag Heuer!

I ordered this timepiece from Amazon and received it the day after with free overnight delivery.
Arrived well packaged and brand new as advertised. Came in a wooden TAG Heuer box with numbered/signed COSC card; plastic wrapping on caseback and around the deployment clasp - a good sign that it hasn't been worn before. The serial number was intact and unaltered as well.

Now, about the watch. This model is the first automatic chronometer capable of measuring 1/10th of a second, and was awarded with the prestigious Grand Prix de I'Horlogerie de Geneve award, among many others. The movement is the Zenith El Primero, and ticks at 36,000 VPH, the second smoothest of the TAG Heuer line - right behind the Calibre 360.

Construction is excellent and the contrast between the brushed and polished stainless steel is amazing in person. The rubber strap is also softer than the ones used for the Carrera Calibre 16 line, and matches the industrial design of this piece very well - also blending in with the 44mm case and making it seem smaller than it is.

The dual-antireflective finish is very effective and seems to be a higher quality than other manufacturers', albeit keep in mind that the outer layer will eventually wear out through natural use.

Now, the not-so-good (my opinions):
- TAG Heuer should've designed the dial to be bi-compax and homologous at both the 3 and the 9'clock. The 9'clock shows the seconds and has two issues.
1) You cannot hack the second to sync it with atomic time.
2) 1-20sec is represented by a black needle, 21-40 sec again by a black needle, and 41-60 by a red needle. This makes distinguishing 1-40sec impossible. A three color combination should've been used (Example: 1-20sec black, 21-40sec yellow, 41-60 sec red).

As an engineer, I believe both form and function are crucial in any product. This is where I believe TAG Heuer (Christoph Behling) swayed too much to aesthetics and neglected function. And frankly, having a bi-compax dial (with the same minute rotating display style at 3'clock also on the 9'clock), would've looked even better. With a 36,000 VPH movement, a rotating disc with actual second markers as opposed to three "needles" would've been a much better way to represent the smooth El Primero and to also show time.
Behling did it for the ETA 2824 Grand Carrera (28,000 VPH), so it's hard for me to imagine the logic of not using the same rotating disc layout to show seconds for a 36,000 VPH timepiece.

Another note is when resetting the chronograph function, the hour disc does not go back to 0. One has to press the reset button a second time to do so.
I'm still trying to figure out if this was a design flaw, a necessity due to the movement, or simply that I received a defective piece. I will post an update once I do more research on the subject.

I hope this review has been helpful - if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to leave a comment. With all said, this is still by far my favorite piece from TAG Heuer, and will be treasured for many years to come.

First the watch and all I can say is pictures don't do it justice the stainless steel is brushed to a very high polish.Under the beautiful sapphire crystal every detail on the dial is just done with the highest attention to detail. The 43mm case just fits the wrist perfect and is not to small or to big a very happy medium. The sapphire case back is unbelievable to look thru and see the Calibre 36(ZENITH EL PRIMERO) which are basically the same.To actually look at the craftsmanship that goes into a mechanical watch and see the movement work you can appreciate why your spending this kind of money on a watch it is almost like looking at a piece of art.Second buying from Amazon was just perfect next day delivery as promised plus saved me over $3000 on what I was quoted at Jarreds.
